Planning an exciting and romantic date can be frustrating and expensive. So many elements of the atmosphere are out of your control. Everyone has been on one of those dates where the restaurant is an hour behind and you are stuck waiting for dinner, annoyed and hungry. We have all been to an evening movie where parents brought kids who were too young that are crying, talking loudly and kicking your seat. Any of these mood killers can easily turn the memory of the evening from romantic to unforgettably bad. Choosing to have a nice, romantic date at home where you cook dinner for your significant other and watch an old movie can turn into a very memorable evening.

There are many classic films that can add an atmosphere of romance to your special night. One of the most famous films in the world is Casablanca, starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. The beautiful tale of two star crossed lovers attempting romance in wartime is one that has stood the test of time and is sure to make you and your honey snuggle a little closer together. Another wonderful classic film that is great for a laugh is Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night, starring Claudette Colbert and incomparable leading man Clark Gable. The movie tells the story of a woman on the run and a journalist who fall in love against all odds.

One classic and unforgettable film that is great for a date night is Roman Holiday, starring the beautiful and always classy Audrey Hepburn. She plays a royal who is bored with the trappings of her lifestyle and gets swept off her feet by the charming Gregory Peck as an American journalist, a romanticized profession at the time. A movie that is absolutely unforgettable for its tales of romance and its cultural significance is Gone With The Wind. Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler, played by Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable respectively, light up the screen with the passionate fires of love, lust, hate, sorrow and everything in between.

Choosing a classic film for your romantic evening is a great way to make the night feel special. There is something heartwarming about seeing two people in love without all the trappings of modern society, driving home the point that love is ageless and timeless, that couples have loved passionately before you and will continue to do so for the rest of time. A classic movie makes a great soundtrack for snuggling in under a warm blanket on the couch with a cocktail or a cup of coffee, enjoying the romance on the screen before you.

When choosing a classic movie for your special night, keep your date’s taste in movies in mind. If your significant other is someone who prefers a romantic comedy to a drama, then It Happened One Night or Roman Holiday may be just the lighthearted film they would love to see on a romantic evening. However, if your significant other loves a good drama, consider screening Gone With The Wind or Casablanca. No matter which of these films you choose, you are sure to have a memorable evening with that special guy or girl in your life.
